Chapter Ten

Mason

Just when I thought I couldn’t hate myself any more, I made the sweetest person on the planet cry.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my heart shattering as he released another small whimper. Truth was, his confession that he drank blood had shocked me. And I’d let my unease about it show, albeit briefly, when his mouth had been at my throat.

Which was stupid. Blood drinker or not, Gray would never hurt me. I should’ve known better than to think otherwise.

“You don’t deserve him.”

Damn if that wasn’t the truth. I didn’t deserve Gray. I had told myself when we’d had sex at the motel that it was a onetime thing, that it meant nothing. But one taste of him and I was hooked. Addicted, really. After him fucking me into his mattress the day before and confessing he felt more for me, I knew I couldn’t walk away from him.

God help me.

“You’re not scared of me?” Gray’s voice shook with the question.

“Not at all.”

“But you don’t like that I drink blood.”

I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. Because I didn’t know the answer. My head was too jumbled.

“I’m hungry.” Gray unwound himself from my arms and wiped at his eyes as he scooted off the bed. “I’ll meet you downstairs, ’kay?”

He was across the room and out the door before I could figure out what to say. I sat up, sighing as I ran a hand over the top of my hair. After pulling on a shirt, I walked into the hall and headed for the staircase.

“You look like shit,” Bellamy said, meeting me there. “Better than being ripped into pieces though. So you have that going for you at least.”

“Yeah, remind me to thank Simon later.”

After Raiden had taken Gray inside the mansion last night, Galen had lost what little control he’d had. His eyes had gone completely black, and his wings had exploded from his back.

“I’ll rip you apart with my teeth,” Galen had growled in a voice much deeper and raspier than his usual one. “And then I’ll scatter your bloody pieces into the sea for the sharks to feast on.”

Simon had jumped in the way right before the Nephilim had torn into me.

“I’m going to kill him!”

“No you’re not,” Simon had said, wrapping his arms around Galen. “Calm down, big guy. Let’s go back to bed.”

Galen had then snatched Simon up and flown off with him. Where they went? Fuck if I knew, but it definitely wasn’t back to their room.

“Simon’s still alive, right?” I asked Bellamy as we descended the stairs. “Galen carried him away like he was his dinner.”

“Oh, he ate him. Just not in the way you’re worried about.” He winked before growing more serious. “When Wrath takes him over like that, only Simon can calm his ass down. Gray can too sometimes. Probably why Galen’s so protective over him and why he gives you so much shit. He’s like a dad threatening his precious daughter’s first boyfriend.”

I snorted at that. But something stuck out to me.
